Dow Chemical - Winner Takes All
In 1996, this world-wide manufacturer recognized the need to employ a more sophisticated approach to its warehousing operations. The selection committee, charged with choosing a service provider, decided to award each of the two bidding companies half of the business, to run on an interim basis.
The competition involved costs, inventory accuracy, productivity, timeliness of service, and other criteria. The company judged to have the best overall performance and price would be chosen to run the entire operation. Dixie won the business early in 1997 after competing head-to-head with one of the most recognized international logistics companies in the world.
Dixie now successfully operates over two million square feet of warehousing in the southern United States, with a commitment to Dow to expand as needed. |
